Leading R&D companies have a solution to the huge environmental problem caused by the millions of tons of waste flexible plastics constantly being generated all around the world, which are clogging up our waste management systems. To meet this need, many OBD additive product ranges has been developed. It degrades totally and harmlessly – even if it is improperly discarded as litter – to leave nothing more than water, carbon dioxide and a ridiculously small amount of biomass!!
In addition to this, the d2p product range has been developed by Symphony has the ability to control the bacteria present in the disposed waste inside the plastic bag. This will not allow the bacteria to aggregate even left for days without disposing properly.
How Does It Work?
OBD - The degradation process is initiated at the time the polythene or polypropylene is extruded by the inclusion of a small amount of a special additive. This additive works to break down the carbon – carbon bonds in the material leading to a lowering of the molecular weight and eventually to a loss of strength and other properties. Stabilizers then ensure that a sufficiently long life is provided for each application. For example, a refuse sack might require an eighteen-month useful life before beginning to lose its strength whereas a bread bag might only require a few months. Significantly, the OBD product ranges available in the market does not need a biologically active environment to start degrading – this will happen even if the plastic is left in the open air.
d2p - An anti-bacterial master batch successfully tested against over 50 common organisms including dangerous bacteria such as MRSA, E. coli, Salmonella, Listeria, Pseudomonas and Aspergillus Niger. There is almost no limit to the number of uses for d2p anti-bacterial. Anything that is made of plastic or has a plastic coating on it could have d2p incorporated at manufacture.
